Implementation of EDI on the Internet to enhanced secure communications with trading partners.
Founded in 1933 the Lactalis Groupe is one of the world’s leading cheese/dairy manufacturers. Lactalis transforms milk in all its forms and to offer the best dairy products to the broadest range of consumers. This mission translates into a strong commitment to the Dairy industry. Cheese remains the Company core business and the sector where it continues to lead, accounting for 34% of the Company turnover. The Lactalis Groupe also has a dedicated division which specialises in fresh milk which accounts for 25% of the Company turnover, as well as another which specialises in yogurts and chilled desserts which accounts for 13% of the turnover. Lactalis utilises an in-depth knowledge of milk and everything dairy to create and manage a very special portfolio of high quality products, manufactured in both large cheese making plants and the smallest local dairies.
When Asda/Walmart transfered its current EDI from value added networks to the Internet, Lactalis recognised they had to change tactics in-line with Asda/Wal-Mart’s switch to web EDI to enable them to work effectively with the purchasing giant. Biz Connect offered Lactalis the ability to interface with their existing EDI system by way of an additional communication module. IMS were the only company that guaranteed the job would be completed within Lactalis’ and Asda/WalMart’s timescale. No mean feat, but to top that IMS were also significantly cheaper than the competition.
The first step was to upgrade their existing EDI system to the latest release, which allowed the chosen software, Biz Connect, to be configured as an additional communications module. Lactalis UK opted to perform the upgrade themselves, with support from IMS. A consultant with over 18 years EDI experience from IMS, performed the installation and configuration of Biz Connect software, and set up the communication module interface to the existing EDI software. The combined resources of the Network Administrator, The Systems Administrator, The Network Configuration Consultant, and the user, were co-ordinated by the consultant in order to obtain the required level of access to all the systems when required. Security work had to be done to ensure that the messaging solution was secure, and could work harmoniously with all parties’ security infrastructures and public-key arrangements, whilst allowing the Biz Connect message server to communicate correctly. The Network Administrator and the Network Support Consultant, defined a suitable solution and implemented allowing Asda/Wal Mart to send test orders which after the usual teething troubles satisfied the stringent security requirements.
By implementing Biz Connect Lactalis UK Limited now has full AS2 capability providing enhanced secure communications with their trading partners. Download Case Study as PDF
