Electronic trading is becoming increasingly used by businesses of all sizes from all industries. IMS is actively supporting many of our clients in data transformation, system integration and workflow processes to strengthen their e-commerce activities.
Where EDI has been the preserve of the large and traditional industries, such as Food, Automotive, Distribution, etc, e-commerce is available to a wide-ranging business marketplace. As a result IMS is seeing a substantial increase in e-commerce enquiries as businesses look for an electronic trading system that supports data transformation, system integration and improved workflow performance.
Data Transformation - at the core of all successful electronic trading is an ability to transform data into sometimes numerous formats and pass it into different applications, either within the business or into those of your trading partners. The aim is to allow numerous documents to be formatted and exchanged and integrated with business partners as fast as possible and for the least possible cost – something IMS can support you with!
Integration – the capability to integrate different applications within the same business, i.e. taking output from one application and transforming it into a format for another application prior to secure delivery, can significantly improve process performance. IMS can set up jobs to initiate other programs automatically, for example, to collect data from a designated location for processing or sending data to a designated location, on an AS400 or a Microsoft server.
Workflow - using simple instructions for every document that passes through the system, internal or external emails can be sent to designated users or groups of users to keep them informed of activities. These can either be about something that has happened, e.g. an order received, or about an exception, e.g. that an order has been received and failed validation. This type of workflow process improves communication, reduces potential errors and provides an auditable trail.
IMS has been involved in many projects implementing E-commerce. With no third party software application to purchase or maintain, or any transmission costs (as everything is done via the WWW), set up is relatively low-cost and once developed can be rolled out to and used by multiple trading partners with minimal additional investment.
