What's common in all three is that they tend to be a result of a lack of formalised processes. IMS is helping our customers overcome these fundamental project failings and see greater project success through the application of PRINCE 2.
PRINCE 2 stands for Projects In Controlled Environments and is a Project Management methodology originating from the National Health Service. What PRINCE 2 does is recognise that successful project management stems from formalising processes, which means creating a controlled environment where decisions, actions and outcomes can be clearly set, implemented and measured. “Common sense” we hear you cry and you’d be right, but this is ‘organised’ common sense and that’s a key difference for successful project management delivered on time, within budget and to your expectations.
IMS’ very own Martin Havenhand is a PRINCE 2 accredited Project Manager, holding the advanced ‘practitioner’ level qualification, and can support our customers to successfully apply and implement PRINCE criteria. Here’s Martin’s take on how to best use PRINCE 2:
“The main thing to understand is that the PRINCE 2 manual is about 400 pages long and if you applied every principal to the letter you would never get a project started let alone finished! Some of the terminology is a little strange also, but once you get your head around this it becomes easier to follow. In my view, it’s best to cherry pick the modules that are used commonly in a project or give you main benefit.”
